…my first effort to create a wallpaper: simple sun with six rays in six flavours (1920x1200px).

You should really start trying harder.. I don't want to sound harsh, but it's bad..

I will actually give real constructive criticism

1) You need

a) a bigger sun centered on the screen

b) a pattern of smaller suns

2) some kind of effect on the sun, so it blends a little more with the background.

3) Get rid of the purple, green, and red shades, they don't work well here, and the black one kinda does.

But I do agree with the others, this really doesn't show that you put a lot of effort into the release.
Just work more on it and be your own critic, and take advice, I'm a LOT better than I was when I first got here, and I'm still not even that good in retrospect.

Thanks for taking the time for your real constructive (!) criticism - this will probably help more; I'll act on your advice...
I'm sorry that people are being so harsh with you. It's usually not the case around here, and I hope that this one incident doesn't discourage you. I'll be honest in saying that it doesn't look great, and it's not something that I'd personally use, but it doesn't look horrible, either. I'd pretty much follow what draco said (although, don't feel free to get creative). The number one thing you can do to improve is play around with your tools, whatever software you're doing. Also, if you ever come across some sort of effect you need, but you can't think of how to implement it, you can always google "How to do so & so effect in so & so program." Often times you'll find results that will at least get you started.

Cheers.

Thanks for your message.
Meanwhile I have got it - I have to practice and improve my skills.
...and come back later ... MUCH later ! ;)
No need to go away ZAS1... looking forwards to more from you
As the others no doubt have hinted at; practice makes perfect. :)

Personally it doesn't do it for me and while I'm usually a sucker for good textures and simplicity, I can't quite put my finger on where it goes wrong here. The sun in itself definitely isn't the best; it doesn't radiate as a warm and burning element, and I think that because the texture in the background is more or less neutral compared to the main subject. So it's putting the entire point off and making the entirety of the wallpaper bland and neutral.

It's not bad, it could be better. (as can anything!)
