BootXChanger Pictures
After seeing this for the first time (I only thought you could do it on Jaguar/Panther), I thought we should have a thread for boot logos! I would normally go to resex, but I don't know the situation with them...
Here are a few ![]()

I, too, use the retro multi-color apple. It's really easy to make an Autobot or Decepticon symbol, too. ![]()

Re: BootXChanger Pictures
Using the star from the default pack, because all of my old Imagine BootX images seem to be too complex.
If you're running 10.4 (or 10.3) on a PowerPC Mac, Imagine BootX will do a bit more like change the background color, but the developer gave up on an Intel version because of the complications
But still, at least someone managed to change the picture on the Intel Macs ![]()

I don't really have a problem with the default. But really how often do you see this anymore. I mean maybe on a laptop but only then for a couple of seconds. I usually only restart my desktop once a week or once month sometimes, but I usually do it on a bathroom break or something. ![]()
It does bring back memories though. Those were the days

Re: BootXChanger Pictures
i boot so rarely i'm not sure it's worth it (?) especially with apples frequent updates now. they seem to want to break things like this and booting is something i don't want to play with.
my 2 cents.
cheers mates!

When I reboot I see this screen much longer than a couple of seconds. Its prob like 14-15 seconds. And I have a 2Ghz Macbook Pro with 2GB of RAM running 10.5 (which BootXChanger works perfectly with).

Haha Well as I said I usually reboot while on the john, but 14(-15)<-
seconds is such a short time considering how long I spend on my computer that it just not that big of a deal to me. Don't misunderstand me though, I'm not trying to keep people from using this - just stating why I don't.

Re: BootXChanger Pictures
I'm on a 1.83 GHz "Rev A" MacBook Pro (with 2 GB of RAM), the startup gray screen shows for about 25 seconds for me. I actually boot all the time, after my computer unexpectedly shuts down (which is happening more and more frequently lately) I'm going to get a new one when a quad core one comes out. I know I shouldn't hold my breath, though ![]()

Did you read the Limitations section here? For example, the background must be #BFBFBF

Re: BootXChanger Pictures
gosh with this done my reboot or a cold start up too a WHOLE lot longer. I don't know what the deal was. with 3 gigs of ram my reboot is usually blazing. This took forever.

Are you on an Intel Mac? It won't work.
I made one as a simple "N". It was the exact same colour pattern as the Apple boot logo. To get it to work, I needed to save it as a PNG-8 with only 2 colours. They've got to be really simple on Intel Macs.

Re: BootXChanger Pictures
damn.... the Happy Mac logo works, that has more than two colors.... it seems that all the sample images (that all work) are 4kb pngs. is it possible to optimize the metallic apple to that size without TOO much loss of quality?

I think the maximum is 9 colours on an Intel Mac.
