updated my iPhone3G to 4.2.1 yesterday. i restored my themes folder from an old backup so i wouldnt have to redownload everything again.

most of the stuff is working but what doesnt seem to show up are the images i had for the 3G signal bars on the top left, the battery icons on the top right (had it so i could tap and itd change from the blue battery image to the percentage),wifi icon wont show, my Gmail bookmark shows the default image now, theres a gap in between the bottom of the screen and my dock icons. as well as the icons being pushed up, which makes the text show up right on top of the icon below it.

my screen used to look like this
http://imgur.com/EeXOt

now it looks like this

http://imgur.com/lLOKp

anyone know what to rename these or what directory to place them in? havent been able to find any info anywhere else.

also each time before i was able to go into my Photo Library and choose any photo and tap USE AS WALLPAPER. when i did that it would have the photo show up as the background for my homescreen. while i had a different image for the lock screen which never changed unless i SSH into the directories and moved things around.
is there a fix for getting that behavior back? or with 4.2.1 can my iPhone3G handle enabling the built in homescreen wallpaper feature without causing more conflicts?

since this seems to be the last OS version i can have on my iphone3G, i want it to look like i had it before so ill never have to mess with jailbreaking it ever again.
@Donut I suggest you read through this thread

any page in particular? went through about 8 pages and wasnt sure if i needed to start from the very first page or go straight to the recent posts.
you've come late to the game and most of your questions are answered so I suggest starting from the very first
ok i read through all 52 pages, which was really confusing up until i got to the more recent posts.

so far ive fixed the wifi and carrier signal pics. and fixed my dock. at first i couldnt figure out why it wouldnt down, then i realized i had to resize Winterboard's 'transparent dock' theme also.

im still stumped on the homescreen wallpaper though.didnt seem very clear.

and i didnt quite understand how to change the icons for web app bookmarks.
@dsg hmm that's a bummer
thanks for the info though
@Donut the native wallpaper needs enabling go to:

/SystemLibrary/CoreService/SpringBoard.app

make a backup of the N72AP.plist then open one copy to edit add this code:

Code: Select all
<key>homescreen-wallpaper</key>
<true/>

to it then save it back to your iPhone (enabling the native wallpaper causes slow down, I think)

for the web apps try this

i went and edited N82AP cause i couldnt find a N72AP.
i now get the 'Use as HomeScreen' and 'Use as LockScreen' options but while the LockScreen still changes normally, the Homescreen is still a black background.

i didnt notice any more lag in performance than i already was. but that may be cause the background is still black.

tried the instructions on that link but still no change. i tried naming images both as 'Icon' and 'icon' , neither seems to work.
try using redsn0w to activate your wallpaper you won't rejailbreak just remember to turn off the install of Cydia,

the Web app icon themed fine on my iPhone 3Gs, so I'm not sure why it didn't work for you

when i go to Settings>Wallpaper it shows me both the lock screen and home screen, both with custom backgrounds. but on the actual homescreen itself its black.

so i have to use RedSnow to active just the wallpaper on the stock firmware? and go thru the whole syncing and restore process all over again?

could i just go into the original web app folder in private/var/mobile/Library/WebClips and replace that Icon.png with my custom image??

update: after rebooting my iPhone, it went into SafeMode and NOW i can see the homescreen wallpaper. so this probably means its something in Winterboard thats causing the black homescreen or perhaps a Cydia app??

no you don't have to go through the whole jailbreak process, you can run redsn0w on jailbroken devices just remember to turn 'Install Cydia' off

I suggest you put the original N82AP.plist before you do it though

you could but it reverts back if you use it

Try turning your Winterboard themes off and see if your wallpaper appears

ok i got it to work. the DIM WALLPAPER was checked on Winterboard, once i unchecked it, the homescreen wallpaper now shows. ^_^
doesnt seem to be any lag, now that the wallpaper is shown. so am quite happy with that.

im stumped as far as the web app icon goes. i tried it with an imdb.com shortcut as well and that also doesnt change.

one thing ive noticed now is that the battery and percentage disappears if im in an app.also the wifi and carrier images revert back to the originals when in an app.though when in Cydia the defaults and battery show up normally. is that just how it has to be now?or is there something else i need to edit.
which website are you trying to change the icon for?
dsg wrote:which website are you trying to change the icon for?

in webclips i have Gmail, IMDb, happyslip.com, digg.com, happytreefriends.com

but the one i use the most is the Gmail shortcut. so thats the main one i wanted changed so it fits with the rest of the black themed icons.
try this see if it works

put the Folders file into:

Your.theme

and the 43F851FC4A4D447FB397D9949400E253.webclip file into:

/private/var/mobile/Library/WebClips
yep that did it. though the icon was HUGE so had to resize it. but at least it shows up now.
yeah you don't need to keep that icon I just mocked it up to see if it worked for you :-!
well this is what it looks like now

http://i.imgur.com/7gJMi.png

close to how i had it. only thing i see thats missing is that my statusbar image is no longer in the back of the statusbar , which has the wallpaper show up behind it.
and also the dock is no longer reflecting the wallpaper image.

still the battery doesnt show up in app screens. but when its plugged in charging, the battery and percentage show up on all screens. i have the battery images labeled as Silver_BatteryDrainingInsides.png and Silver_BatteryDrainingInsidesLow.png but they dont seem to show up.

Translucent_base.png it goes in the UIImages folder, if you read all the pages you'd know that :-! :-! :-! :-!

well after 1,000+ posts, it seemed like trial and error for the most part. so wasnt sure what was the final solution for each instance.
plus the theme i have is from the early days, so its lacking a Translucent_base,png and a lot of the other stuff thats found in current themes.
I'm sure it was more like trial and horror reading all that lot

sorry mate
well it was time consuming. only thing that kept throwing me off is that i have an iPhone3G while seemed like the majority all had an iPhone4 or iPad.
so i tried one thing and got mixed results then went to look at the spreadsheet that kept getting linked but that was little to no help. then i found in one of the more recent posts a link to a webpage that had some clearer instructions but didnt cover a whole lot. but that was at least some progress. if i knew what term or name to look for than itd have been a piece of cake. but going in blind, it was just overwhelming.

got it showing up now. it didnt work as Translucent_base.png, so i tried Translucent_Base.png and that seems to have done it. also threw in Black_Base.png
