I think it means the pics are package up like the UIImages meaning without Winterboards support, you'll have to extract the images edit them and then repackage them. they have to be exactly the same size (as in picture size and file size)
Edit: I might be wrong
Edit 2: I was wrong because that is the .artwork file, doh

There are many new images that have been added - mostly found within /System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app. These include switcher shadows, icon and dock icon shadows, icon drop shadows, wallpaper gradients, etc.
The wallpaper gradient has been reported to be causing the lag on 3G devices and can be removed.
I've also encountered problems with the status bar elements; believe they've been built into the artwork file. Haven't torn it apart to determine yet. Will update as progress made.

Lol my first post mentions this. They have moved and right now we dont know where it's located. Probably the .artwork file :/
wow i totally missed the last sentence hahaha. my bad. anyway i can't seem to theme anything on the statusbar either including the statusbar itself. did that change as well or am i just messing things up?
If anyone knows how to change the third party app icon, please let me know. I have been working in private/var/mobile/applications/-anyselectedfolder/selectedfolder.app and went and changed the icon.png I resprung and nothing happened.

I was able to change mine by using WinSCP. By going to /System/Library/Audio/UISounds. I changed out the sms-received1.caf and the other text tones without a problem. Let me know if you need help.
I changed out most of the icons for the stock applications already by changing their icon.png and it worked also.
I am working on the wifi icon right now to see what I can do, if I make any progress I will post up.
