Hello,

this is my mockup for upcoming themes contest. I do realize it's dark as hell, but it's they way I wanted it to be - I'm inspired by Jetblack and aware of the fact that there are not too many dark themes for OS X out there.

Comments or suggestions are welcome, it's still work in progress :)

(Check for updates in my following posts)
I love the feel, just a few points;
- I think some elements could have less glow/brightness (such as menu hover),
- Perhaps less "blocks"/segments in the elements, I think the scrollbar looks really nice just with two thin ones on the left, have you tried just that on other things?

Keep it up Pe123er, I wanna see it finished off! ;)
My only critique would be in the scroll bar: I think I would need the highlight on both ends to define it better, and maybe a thin halo like glow around it as well. I can't tell you how many times I have to search for the scroll bar in certain themes, especially in darker one.

Otherwise, I will definitely want to try this, and look forward to more previews.

Bad Steph! Less glow! Less glow! 8)

Well, pooh on you! Fine, See if i care. *sniff sniff*

Okay, well since you want less glow, maybe just a simple halo effect. This is a critique forum.

I still love you Rick.
Less glow will be something that is sure to happen from limitations. For example, the progress bar resources wont allow for that much glow; other resources are sure to suffer too. I love the look too and am flattered for the mention of inspiration.
@seXXI: I'd rather not remove the glow. Theme is very dark and there have to be some elements that give light and contrast. About the blocks - I will be definitely altering them, you'll see on next preview.

@Stuphalina: I'm still working on scrollbar. I'm going to change its shape, make it look like in Eylo and I'll try to add some more highlights.

@swiz: I'm aware of that. When (if) it comes down to making an actual theme out of it, I will try as hard as I can to adjust it so the glow isn't killed. It's very important for me

Dude, i had my fair of share of glow with Sweet Slumber. Good luck with making it. Looks great. You will need to downsize a lot of the elements to keep the glow.

Cheerz.

Okay, I was just making sure that there is enough contrast to make it useable.

Well that's alright then. ;) It's just a glow on everything makes it kind of loose the effect, in my opinion. Better to use sparingly for pressed stuff and say 40-60% of the glow for the selected/default button and tabs etc.

Not remove, just tone it down, or reduce the amount of glow? I more subtle 2px glow would look nicer. I'm not saying it's not nice now. It is! But I can see it becoming too fuzzy/blurry during long terms of usage - although that's speculation. :)
Preview #2:

Changes:
- new scrollbar (I like this shape better than the last one)
- dark sidebar bg color and sidebar selected item bg changed (is it better now?)
- new progress bar
- less glow on selected stuff
- minor color tweaks and changes (zillions)

And a lighter background today. Tell me what you think!

@seXXI: I kinda like the idea of blurred elements. I reduced glow on selected menu items, but I'd like the progress and waiting bar to stay this way - methinks it's will looks cool when animated, especially in dark environment.

you're right, it looks cool but it still won't be possible cause the caps for the progress bars aren't large enough. you can also try to keep the intensity of the glow but reduce its size. it'll look sharper that way.

;)

I like the reduced glow - but as [ idle. ] said, it'll be difficult to do the glow on the progress bars, I've always thought the caps were very touchy - some apps only show the second to last line at the end of the bars, where was some (such as Trasmit) show the entire cap when it's inactive. :?

If you can get the glow in, I'm sure it'll look far better animated, perhaps more dependent on the "backlit" parts of the inactive progress bar (so the caps in between have less glow on the top and bottom). :)

On another note: I think you'll have to lose the segment on the left of the Menubar select, since you get 4px (or 6px, I can't remember off by heart) for that per left and right cap. Although maybe you can play with expanding them, it may look a little odd.
I like it. What else can I say.
So dark! AH!

I really like seeing dark themes, but hate using them for more than about 5 minutes.
wow this is hot. make it how you want to, it looks good without anyone's interference.
Can anyone here confirm if the horizontal gradient on the menubars is possible?

what horizontal gradient on the menubar (menubar is the thing where file, edit, etc reside)?

I meant menu.

Sure is. You'd have to create a background image that is at least as big as the menu shown in the mockup BUT beware the image is tiled so in order to look good with bigger menues (e.g. bookmarked links to websites) you'd have to create an images that is a lot bigger.

Hope that helps, ;)

yeah its possible.
So far I like just about everything about, except the name?

My jaw hurts just trying to pronounce that...

Excellent work!!! Keep the glow, that's what makes it special...
That's awesome the way it is :o
nice, unusable, but make it more 3dimensional, it feels flat
it may be dark, but it's eerily beautiful.

i LOVE it

i don't know how much i like the widgets though, how about a x-+ variant? or maybe something else. i dunno.
