Is it just me, or does it feel like there are much fewer themes released these days? Maybe it's nostalgia, but I recall themes being released in much greater droves a year or two ago. And then I look at some of the shots for android and it feels as though all the artists have abandoned ship. What do you guys think?
imho im guessing people dont want to share thier designs with other people. and i wouldnt blame them because i wouldnt want everybody elses phone to look like mine. its all about originality nowadays. they also seen how quick thier themes were getting seeded and thier profits werent what they expected from thier time spent on the themes they were selling.
good themer will get job offers pretty quickly, they're probably working on icons and so on for cash monies, baby... the question is, where's the next generation
I have get tired of making themes. In the "old" days it was so much easier. No need for bundles and so on. You just did the icon and renamed it and everything worked fine. It was also easier to find UIimages.
So from this I mean it takes so much more time now and you really dont get much back from the communtiy.
One of my themes Pops HD. I've got 10 000+ downloads on it. Not a single donation like a good gesture. Almost everyday people asking me to please do this and do that with the theme, The same thing with my latest theme Safi. It also got 10 000+ downloads but not a single donation and even there I get alot questions about updates, new icons.
It's not so motivating to put down hours and hours and never get anything back then greedy messages.
Problably now you think im greedy and if you are, why dont you just sit down, learn Photoshop and make your own theme and stop complaining!
My plan in the older days was to make a theme. Take money for it in Cydia and give it away for free in this forum, but pirates keep me away from doing so.
This is a great forum and it's because this forum I've started to get into design a couple years back
Im not done making UI themes and icon themes. I just dont have any motivation for it. My plan is to make a theme when I get my iPad 3 and a jailbreak for it and then port it for iPad 2 and iPhones.
Hope you understand my crappy english

Yeah it's sucks but of course it's feels good to give away stuff to. It has helped me to make "a name" of my self and helped me get client work
But I really miss the good old days. Everyday when you walked in to Macthemes it feelt like there always where something new here This is an awesome place and I think it will grow back to it former glory!
Just wait for the new generation
But I also think Macthemes got some work to do. I think an major update on the page should help. At least improve the message system. People needs something new, something fresh!
Really it seems the only way to get anything back is to charge for the theme. People complain, and some will pirate, but honestly, it's the next logical move. Look at Jaku for instance. Hugely successful. and for all the work Lockheed put in, I say its worth $5 not just $2.99

No, I don't think you are greedy to expect compensation. It's your work after all. The only ones I have qualms with are those that make NFR themes but that's a story for another time...
So the biggest problem seems to be piracy? It's sad, because I doubt there's anything to be done about that. I am glad that I wasn't alone in feeling as though MTF has stagnated over the years. I remember swapping themes constantly two years ago. Now I have a setup that I no longer bother changing.
