The only two themes I've tried are Suave-HD and the iPhone4 theme. The icons are 120 x 120, and when applied to the iPhone, they look like this:

Does anyone know what's going on? Is Winterboard to blame? Did the theme creators goof? Please discuss as there are going to be lots of questions on this with the new jailbreak just released. :/

btw, I <3 MacThemes.

ramasaurus wrote:@waterproteins : I'll be glad to make on for you. Will include it in the next extras set

Others, generally its like this (also explained in the opening post of the thread): previous generation icons were 57 x 57 pixels. For the retina display they are 2x, that is 114 x 114 pixels. When devs update their apps, they just need to include a 114 x 114 pixel artwork in their package -- so the smaller one is used for devices before iPhone 4 and the larger one is automatically detected by Retina Display. If there isn't a high-res icon, springboard scales it and that looks ugly beside other high res icons.

As for the problem, remember the same thing happened with iPad ? I'm not sure if its just naming the icons or whether Winterboard is not fully compatible with iPhone 4 yet, you might want to wait a little before saurik confirms it.

orchid wrote:if you are really impatient, you can drop the icon directly into the app folder. For example, I renamed an icon i liked to "Icon" and dropped that into the iRealSMS.app folder, respring and the icon is replaced and looks perfect.

saw this discussion in the susumu theme thread and kinda found a workaround that could lead to something. keep in mind that this doesnt really help with organization and ease but it works.

I've only tested this with a few icons and they work. All you have to do is create a "Bundles" folder and then create another folder within it with the bundle name then the actual icon and name it "icon@2x.png".

it'll look a little like this:
iPhone Theme name > Bundles > com.apple.AppStore > icon@2x.png
iPhone Theme name > Bundles > com.apple.MobileStore > icon@2x.png

the problem is finding the appropriate bundle name which is kinda long and tedious.

EDIT: this only seem to work for the stock apps. downloaded apps either dont change icon or it has a hard shadow.

here's a lil preview of what it'll look like

and a dl of what i've been able to do with his theme http://cl.ly/1qHe

Using WinterBoard to theme icons doubles its size. So follow R3Bol2n's post.
you can only change app store icons that have already been updated for the retina display. it will still have a hard shadow behind it though, havent found a workaround.
Ichikasuto wrote:Using WinterBoard to theme icons doubles its size. So follow R3Bol2n's post.

my winterboard works fine on my iphone 4 just need to create the bundles folders and place it in the theme folder then put it into winterboard through ssh.

Trying that out now. Thanks, it should save me a bit of time and allow me to work on the others.

I wish I knew if saurik was even aware of the issue and was working on this for Winterboard. I'm not seeing this being discussed on any other iPhone forums I frequent, so I'm not sure if the problem is even on his radar... :/
I've managed to theme all my icons : default and App Store-bought.

Basically, follow the guidance above. To theme an icon, create a folder inside a folder named 'Bundles', call that folder 'com.apple.Remote' for example (some icons have capital letters, yes, important), inside there, you need to place the image and rename it icon@2x.png for default apps.

For purchased apps, for example Facebook, open the new icon in Photoshop and resize the canvas to 114x114 pixels. Save it.

Now follow the same steps as for the previous icons, yes I know its 4px smaller either side, it'll look crisp and fabulous on the phone, trust me.

If the icon you are changing, for example Remote.app, hasn't been updated for the new Retina display, the icon will need to be called 'icon.png' NOT icon@2x.png.

What about things like Installous & Cydia icons?
What to input then?
Expanding on what Kardashin posted, here is a Ps Action script to make the process easier. I have only tried it with iPhone HD by Susumu.

Thanks again.

Would you mind giving a listing of which folder names you've gotten to work. I can't figure out several of them. For example, 'com.apple.Stocks' does not work.

EDIT: Here are some that I have found to work or not work. Please post if you've had different results or found others that work.

com.apple.AppStore - Works
com.apple.YouTube - Works
com.apple.VoiceMemos - Works
com.apple.mobilesafari - Works
com.apple.mobileslideshow - Works
com.apple.MobileSMS - Works
com.apple.MobileStore - Works
com.apple.mobiletimer - Works
com.apple.Preferences - Works
com.apple.Maps - Works
com.apple.mobilemail - Works
com.apple.MobileAddressBook - Works
com.apple.mobilecal - Works (use with original Suave plist)
--------
com.apple.mobileipod - Does not work
com.apple.compass - Does not work
com.apple.mobilenotes - Does not work
com.apple.Stocks - Does not work
com.apple.TelephonyUI - Does not work
com.apple.Remote - Does not work (have tried naming 'icon' as well as 'icon@2x')

It's beginning to come together, but slowly. Screenshot --> http://i29.tinypic.com/234shg.jpg

What about Installous apps?
And even third party apps installed from App Store?
Obviously, com.apple.Evernote won't work... but i can't find the directory for Evernote.

I have found - com.saurik.Cydia - Works for the Cydia icon.

Not sure about other apps; I'm posting everything I've tried thus far.

I also cannot get Cydia to work the way you've described it. Are you putting the icon in the Cydia application folder or in a bundle folder?

That's everything I have, there.

How did you make the dock transparent? I want to know how to make the status bar and dock transparent and can't seem to find a way :(
I've tried a few bundles with very limited success:

Work:

com.apple.calculator
com.apple.mobilesafari
com.apple.mobilephone
com.apple.AppStore
com.apple.Maps

I've tried most of those listed by Karsahian with no luck. All Bundles are inside my suave theme. I have NO icons in the suave icon folder.

Any ideas?

Some icons need to be named differently: iPodImage and CompassImage for example.

That should help. I'll have to try that out when I get back home. How did you know what to put there?
Wow, i'm sorry but this confused the heck out of me! :o
com.apple.mobilephone

doesnt work for me

Neither of those work for me. Are you saying they work for you?

Several of those do not work for me. For example, what is the image name you're using for Stocks?

Also, are you on 4.0 or 4.0.1?
Well, I have got somewhere with this, but some of my icons are showing up with a weird black background? Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

It's the AppIconMask@2x.png causing your problem. It's in MobileIcons.framework
