Not necessarily. You could directly swap out the files in the springboard.app. Just make sure to rename the original images to something you can remember so you can swap them back should the need arise.

It would be easier to use winterboard, since you can then change this on the fly.

This made a nice new tutorial to my winterboard section for 4.x.

read please. could anyone make a package with all the mods and send it to bigboss repo for example? so people can download and activate them though winterboard...

im so confused. i downloaded the themes and when i went to ssh into my itouch i did not know what to do when i got to springboard.app. how do i set both the folder icon and the folder background? What do u mean by "replace it to : "system/library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app"?

go to "system/library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app" and replace file "FolderSwitcherBG" and file "FolderIconBG"

I made a iOS4-like folder for the Categories folders. It takes a good 20 minutes in Photoshop.

Ok so mine wouldn't change until i replaced the "FolderIconBG@2x.png" and the "FolderSwitcherBG@2x.png" files. now that i have my phone is all screwed up. Can someone Please share the defaults that came with the phone from Apple so I can fix my phone? And can anyone explain why I'm having a hard time changing mine? Thanks!

Update:
I figured out that I just needed to resize the "FolderIconBG@2x.png" and the "FolderSwitcherBG@2x.png" files to work with the retina display. I just doubled their sizes. They look fine now!

I don't think that folder icon was even suited for Retina Display.

Just did the same thing, replaced my icons on my Iphone 4, and the idiot that i am forgot to backup the original files. Could anyone post them please.

heres a custom version of the epitome folder icon in a couple of colors.

i hope you like them and if you would like a different color just post the color code and ill get it for you.

I believe u can make a folder in ui images in the theme called springboard.app and put it in there and it will work.

Yep. Make a folder in the winterboard folder like this:

"'name'">Bundles>com.apple.springboard"

and put the files in the com.apple.springboard
