[System Preferences] Crispy Cubes

Enlarge
I was going to leave putting this up here until I’d finished all the main icons, but I didn’t like looking like I was just copying NoSmokingBandit’s similar idea
Be sure to enlarge the image, and in case they aren’t obvious, the icons, from the left, are:
Bluetooth, Spaces, Spotlight, Time Machine, Mobile Me, Secrets, Mouse, Date & Time, Dock, Desktop & Screensaver, Trackpad, Keyboard, Appearance, Security, Startup Disc, Network, Sharing.
What do you think?
Still left to do are: Language & Text, CDs & DVDs, Displays, Energy Saver, Print & Fax, sound, Accounts, Parental Controls, Software update, Speech, Universal Access, Growl, GeekTool, Perian, Hazel – and any other third party prefpanes you might suggest.
The main reason for making the set is that I want to trial image editor Opacity. I haven’t bought it yet, so I can’t make the icon versions. When I’m done, I’ll decide whether it was useful enough to be worth the money.

Re: [System Preferences] Crispy Cubes
Beautiful, this is exactly what I've always thought would be perfect for the preference pane icons and I really hope you make some third party replacements, too.
However, this is the Critique section so here goes:
You should darken the aluminium just around the keyboard keys, the contrast is a little sharp and the new MacBook Pro keyboards are sunken in a little, a little more gloss would be nice on the appearance icon, although at such small sizes that might be difficult to pull off well, and the sharing icon looks a little "cheap" when compared to the exceeding high quality of the other icons.

i think the connections icons lines should be wavy like the original, that reminds me of vista's control panel icon for some reason

Yeah... your icons are about a billion times better than the ones i started on, lol.
Looking great!
I may completely start over and ditch the square icon idea. Maybe do something monochrome and round....
Looking forward to seeing these released!

That looks amazing. Can't wait for a release!
May I suggest an "Archives" icon? It's a Pref Pane that's included with OS X by default, but not installed.
If you want to check it out, go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Archive Utility/Resources and install Archives.prefPane.

Re: [System Preferences] Crispy Cubes

Update – some updated icons, some new ones. Icons are: “Accounts, Perian, Speech, Energy Saver, Sound, Displays, Geektools, Universal Access, iStat Menus, Connect360, Language & Text, Keyboard, Software Update, Network, Spaces, Public, Time Machine, Mobile Me, Desktop, Archives, Appearance.
@FuelledByEspresso: The keyboard icon used to have that sunken-in-ness, but I didn’t like the way it looked. But I’ve lowered the contrast between the keys and the background by adding a fuzzy shadow around them. The glossy appearance icon – you’re right, it’s kind of difficult to pull it off at this size. Still, I gave it a go. I’ve also updated the Public icon, though I’m still not entirely happy with it.
@iTALiANiCK02: I think it looks better that way too.
@echoes: Done
@PineApple: Growl was already in the plan – just thinking how to get it to work in the set
@Hendo: Connect360 is done.
@Sgt. Pepper: I’ve done an archives icon – however I”m not sure whether I’ll be able to apply it – the preference pane doesn’t have an icon to replace.

just one thing, I think Connect360 icon looks a bit blurry...or it's just my impression? Apart from that, keep it up, you're doing very well!
I know where you’re coming from with this, and I’ve been a bit frustrated by it myself. The intention is to make the ring look torus shaped, rather than like a flat circle – but the shading is making it look a little lackluster. I don’t think this’ll be the final version of that icon. (also the accounts icon is pretty bad right now and I’m not a fan of perian’s, so they’ll definitely change)
Hendo wrote:
Connect360 looks great!! Will you be doing Growl? The detail on these are just amazing, I cannot wait to apply them!
Glad you like it, though it will probably be changed a bit (see above). Anyway, I’ve always been intending to do growl, I’m just not entirely sure how to make it fit in (I’m tossing up whether to make an icon that has the same symbolism as the stock icon, or whether to be more literal and make the icon a stylised notification)

I like the Desktop-y one next to the MoblieMe you got there. Can you make a 512px one pl0x?
