Feels very flat, the buttons could use more highlight and shadow... the menubar also looks out of place, I think if the window was darker, or if the menubar was lighter, then it would look better and more unified. It's a good start though, and I can't wait to see what comes of it smile

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

I hope that by the time you release this, the rounded sides of the capsules and traffic lights are less jaggy.
It's not a bad idea though.

Completly agree; reminds me a bit of Milk, with the white an blue. I think you should defintely keep going, maybe make a red version too (instead of the blue), could see it going very well with Amora.

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

just to be clear i'm not bashing, but, aren't the Wall-E related wallpapers, icons, etc., etc. gettting a bit old? the theme is nice, but gosh, why drag Wall-E in to it?

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

a couple of thoughts:
even if the striped texture on the blue glyphs clearly refer to Eve eyes design, this also reminds to me the old (10.1-10.3) Apple aqua interface, and that's a bit odd (it's a sort of "dive into the past" of GUI design). sad
instead of simply overlaying this striped pattern, you may try to "blur" or "move" the glyphs like Eve's eyes are wink
(oh, and the striped texture makes absolutely no sense on the windows background, 'couse Eve body is shiny plastic white!)

secondly, I agree the bar should be white. imo this way it makes poor sense... I'd better see it shiny white, with Eve mark instead of the apple wink

finally, the buttons edges are aliased. smile_zipped

keep it up! smile_thumbup

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

I don't think that the glyphs should be blue, and maybe change the pushed states for the buttons, because as of now it looks sort of like niqu

I like it, but I'm not feeling the Mail capsule-ish buttons. I prefer a slightly less rounded look. Love the theme of the color though, very schnazzy. big_smile

The Ace Chef: I agree about the buttons, I’ve tried to give them a little more “volume” here. I actually prefer the dark menu bar, but this one looks nice too. I’ll probably do both.

Ielandrb: Agreed.

Spellhouse: Eve and the various B&L products from Wall•E had an interesting style, I think, that could work well as a theme. I could have not mentioned that that was my initial inspiration, but the theme needs a name and there’s no reason not to base that on why I made it. But of course, looking/working well supersedes any notion of “accuracy”, and it’s not going to be “in-your-face” about its insipration (eg: I wouldn’t change the apple logo to  the “eve mark”, sorry kiwidesign tongue ).

Kiwidesign: I actually really liked the pinstripes of OS X of times gone by. You will, however, note that I’ve gone for a shinier, and not pinstriped window this time, and the glyphs have a slightly more complex style (though still very clearly pinstriped) I’m still trying to get a decent look for the glyphs made from 1 px lines — I might draw them differently..

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

Hey, I was gonna try this, but you actually beat me to it. The second mockup you posted looks a whole lot more Eve-y to me. I like the white bar at the top, but personally the black bars in the menu bother me a little bit. It is probably just me, but the menubar in Finder seems a little bit out of place; I would kind of expect either some kind of glow effect (on text and/or icons) or dark background. The "traffic lights" still have sharp edges, but they look great for now. I really like what you've done with all the buttons!

What I would love is an entire theme and icon set based on the look of Eve (I've already started gathering -- and making -- a few of my own icons to fit). I can already tell for sure that when this "Eve" theme is released, I will use it!

Looks good right now, I'd add some gloss though, if you really want it to be Eve-ish

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

the new glyphs ar way cooler than the old ones, good work winksmile_thumbup
anyway damn... buttons and trafficlights are still aliased, how that's possible? are you sure that the anti-alias box is checked when you use shape/selection tools?

ps: the eve logo instead of the apple could be a variant of the theme, if facade will allow this (and I think so wink)

Re: [WIP] Eva theme Mockup

Looks really good man. I like the first version better too. I like the black menubar. The stripes i can live without, and the traffic lights could use a little love, but it really does look great [both versions]smile_thumbup
