Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
Using the following method:
kylan wrote:
I figured it out for the most part. All I did was use "defaults write -g AppleUseCoreUI -bool NO" in the terminal.
I could apply DSKY's SIRO theme in OSX leopard.
Take a look:

Also tried Milk, Smooth Stripes, 7 and Kuro.
Everything seems to be fine except finder's toolbar buttons and grey metal backgrounds.. ![]()
We just gotta figure out how to fix the toolbar buttons (resizing them will mess up other toolbars) and metal backgrounds.
Oh btw the GUI feels slightly faster too.

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
The only thing you need to do is enter the terminal code, overwrite the extra.rsrc files and restart your apps. No modding in the themes itself.
Could someone please reupload Vitae. I'm waiting for this since october last year ![]()

First of all: awesome, and thanks in advance to anyone who works on porting themes.
Were any of these missing elements found in SArtFile.bin? Maybe that file is still being used even with CoreUI disabled.

I'm interested to see how this will affect the OS-experience over a longer period of time.

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
What I did was the following:
1. I typed the terminal command to disable Core UI
defaults write -g AppleUseCoreUI -bool NO
2. I booted to OS X 10.4 Tiger, overwrote its Extras.rsrc(PPC) Extras2.rsrc(Intel) with Leopard's (this step might be unncessary as the files may be the same)
3. Opened ShapeShifter, applied the theme I wanted.
4. Opened ThemePark, File->Open Special -> Extras.rsrc (PPC) Extras2.rsrc (Intel)
Save the opened files into some location.
5. Overwrite Extras.rsrc / Extras.rsrc in your Leopard partition with the new rsrc files you've just saved.
(Backup the original files before overwriting! For copying, sudo cp is recommended.)
6. Reboot to Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard! and voila!

I can't release it because I am not the creator of SIRO theme.

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
Here's my guide:
1. Back-up all your files!!!
2. Enter this command in the terminal: "defaults write -g AppleUseCoreUI -bool NO"
3. Right click on the finder icon in your dock, go to folder:
"/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources"
4. Delete Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc in this folder
5. Copy Extras.rsrc and Extras2.rsrc from another theme to the same directory
6. Restart all your apps
To go back to the default leopard theme repeat step 2 and replace "NO" with "YES"

Have we still not found a way to theme the menubar? And fix the 2d Dock to another colour other than black? Absolutely awesome discovery none-the-less, seems this could go a long way to helping out themers here ![]()

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
Can anyone recommend a good method to convert a theme from .guikit into extras/extras2 without needing to boot into Tiger?

Using guikitty, it's possible to decompile guikit. However, you have to merge the extracted rsrc with Leopard's Extras.rsrc file. You can either do it manually using Themepark or use some tool...if such exists. It should be pretty easy to write a tool for that, anyone up for it?

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
If you guys want to tear down GuiKits and grab the extra.rsrc's download GUIKITTY here:
http://unsanity.org/archives/000314.php
Simply use GUIKitty to extract the contents of the guiKit and go through the folder guikitty just extracted all the resources to.
Path is:
Theme Name> Theme Variants > "whatever version you want probably only one" > Patches > Here you should see an extras folder (you can just search the folder for a fast find)
Now once you have the extras.rsrc you can either find your active extra file found here
"/System/Library/Frameworks/Carbon.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/HIToolbox.framework/Versions/A/Resources"
and port the theme to the Leopard resources (takes a while but would give you a smoother running set-up)
If you don't know how to port with themepark, check out the how to port iTunes theme to leopard topic in the GUI Discussion Forums.
Since it's pretty much the same thing you shouldn't have a problem with the instructions. Or you could do it the way above, if you can port the theme with the instructions I would say it's worth the time to do it (30-60 min)
@raingrove thanks for finding this, for some reason I feel like I heard about this before. But I doubt it. Thanks again this is awesome, and I haven't noticed a speed decrease like the other method.
Here's a pic of Canum ported: (click for full)

Re: Disabling CoreUI lets you apply themes in 10.5 Leopard
you know, its funny, because i asked in another thread if it was possible to port entire shapeshifter theme to leopard. Just like how everybody is porting itunes themes to leopard.
but nobody seemed to care enough to answer.

@ raingrove nicely re/un/discovered
@ c_h_r_i_s "1. Back-up all your files!!!"![]()
If you listen closely you can hear 1000 terminal nOObs [that would be me btw] thrashing their systems in unison... ![]()
