How To Make iTunes Themes For Leopard

Things you need:

-ThemePark http://www.geekspiff.com/software/themepark/

-GuiKitty http://unsanity.org/archives/000314.php

-Not needed but helps to have basic photoshop/editing skills.

-Patience


1st: Find the GuiKit (theme) that you want to port, and download it to your desktop.

2nd: Take the GuiKit (it helps if it's already ported for iTunes 7.6 on tiger, but isn't necessary) and drag it into GuiKitty. This will extract all the contents of the theme into a folder on your desktop named appropriately.

3rd: Find the desired themes iTunes.rsrc.

Location Path:
Desktop > Theme Name Folder  > Theme Variants > Theme Name Folder  > Patches >  com.apple.iTunes_iTunes >  com.apple.iTunes_iTunes.rsrc



Open com.apple.iTunes_iTunes.rsrc (aka iTunes.rsrc) w/ Themepark.

4th:  Locate original iTunes.rsrc this is located in Applications > iTunes (right click show package contents) > Contents > Resources > iTunes.rsrc   Once you find this file make a backup of it and then another copy of it on your desktop.



5th: Open the original iTunes.rsrc on your desktop in ThemePark. You should now have the themes iTunes.rsrc that you want to use and the original iTunes.rsrc open and on your screen.

6th: You now need to copy and paste each file from the PICT and PNGf from the desired theme over your original iTunes.rscs This is done by selecting the each image and copying it and pasting it over the matching image. Copying the path will not work, you must copy each image.

7th: Once you have copied and pasted every image from the themes iTunes.rsrc into the originals. Save the original rsrc(now themed) to your where you want, as "iTunes".  Take this newly themed iTunes.rsrc,  and paste it over the iTunes.rsrc in the following path.

Applications > iTunes (right click show package contents) > Contents > Resources


A few notes:

- Simply throwing the desired themes iTunes.rsrc into your iTunes will not work.

-  Some themes work perfect, some have issues, it all depends on the themes. So it's really trial and error, but if you are good with photoshop you can probably take care of any bugs in all themes.

- MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR ORIGINAL ITUNES.RSRC AND DON'T TOUCH IT. This will allow you to restore your iTunes to stock and you wont ever "ruin" your iTunes. So this shouldn't be risky as long as you make a backup of your iTunes.rsrc
