[Link]Stacks Replacements

Just found this in my MCDo Design RSS feed, and wow is it a cool set.  Thought I had to link it here just incase anyone else hasn't found it yet.  Basically, it's a stacks folder "overlay" which helps to organize your stacks, and identify them more easily.  Look at the following link and preview for a better idea.

cool and stunning!! smile_thumbupsmile_thumbup
@duyvan82: i created a folder and renamed it to 0 (or you may rename it to 0.app by any ways of sorting, it will be displayed on the top) and then paste the icons in the stacks replacement to your folder created. that's my way to get it work, perhaps there are better solutions smile

Re: [Link]Stacks Replacements

@osuns: thanks for the explanation, but this is weird. Even though I have renamed it to 0.app, as soon as I've downloaded a new file, it automatically shows up on top neutral

Re: [Link]Stacks Replacements

You need to change the sort method to Name rather than Date by right Clicking the Stack

Those icons are perfect and it looks so nice - the Dock. Seems very organized now.

They look nice. Too bad there's no practical way to apply them.

Just naming a folder space and applying that icon seemed to work pretty well.

But, I do wish I didn't have a wasted folder in my clean downloads folder sad

Re: [Link]Stacks Replacements

This is awesome! But there's a better way to keep the overlays on top, which is using the touch command in term to change the last modified date. This means you can use the Downloads stack and still have newer downloads at the top but keep the overlay (which will be at the very top, which is a little annoying but something we have to live with until Apple actually fix Stacks properly).

Since the page is in Japanese I've written up a tutorial on how to do the whole thing here: http://t.ecksdee.org/post/19001860

I've also submitted it on digg: http://digg.com/apple/Fixing_OS_X_Leopa … ying_icons

Cheers.

There is no original applications icon for stacks?!

Umm...you must've replaced the actual Applications folder icon (don't ask me wtf you did that for), but anyways, navigate to /Users/Your Name/Applications (or /Applications) and select Get Info on that folder.  Then, in the upper left hand part of the Info Window, select the 32px icon, and hit delete.

That will remove any custom icon.

Re: [Link]Stacks Replacements

That looks great.... Apple should have implemented Stacks icons like these. I'm resistant to just placing the icon into the folder, though, since I often delete all of the items in my Downloads folder.

I did this and arranged by Date Modified too, the only problem is that zip files always end up being on top.  I can't figure out why.
